KPAW
KPAW (pronounced Kay-Paw) is the Memphis Shelby County Humane Society's club for kids. It stands for Kids Promoting Animal Welfare. It gives kids in the Memphis and Shelby County areas the opportunity to help the injured and abused animals of the community. Kids must be between 8-17 years old to participate. Members get a T-shirt, a quarterly newsletter and frequent listings of events in which they may participate.
We also sponsor dog washes, which are held at various locations, with the proceeds benefiting the Humane Society; and annual events such as Trot For Spot, a fun run/walk, and Pet Photos with Santa, held in November and December. There are also a number of other events throughout the year in which kids may participate.
The mission of KPAW is to teach kids how to be responsible pet owners. Through humane education, we teach kids the facts on overpopulation and why it is important to spay/neuter their pets. Humane education also teaches kids the proper way to take care of animals and the responsibilities of having a pet. Kids also learn how to properly handle animals and why it is important to respect them.
