Dog Daze in Memphis
Celebrating 75 years of Second Chances
The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County is seeking artists with an interest in supporting a unique animal welfare, tourism and public art project. Dog Daze in Memphis will launch in January 2008, as the Humane Society celebrates its' 75th Anniversary year. The project and featured events will span most of the calendar year, with the highest visibility occurring between July and October.
To implement Dog Daze, the Humane Society will partner with the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and local Arts organizations to design 75 sponsored 'Buddy Dogs' that will be displayed in local businesses across the city between July 1st and October 31st, 2008.
Each dog will be designed and painted by a local artist working with a business sponsor. The 'Buddy Dogs' will each develop his own 'look' and personality based on the collaboration between artist and sponsor. Artists can use any materials to bring to life their vision of 'Buddy' (i.e. Harrah's Dog - designed with chips and cards...) and will receive a $500 stipend for their time and effort as well as signage at their dog's location.
