Cans for Pets

The Humane Society spends approximately $30,000 each year on food. Cans for Pets helps us immensely to offset these costs. Help us fill up our collections trailer for 2008. Our goal is to be able to purchase 20 tons this year from our Cans for Pets program.

Your trash is our treasure.
The Humane Society and Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation want to let you know that every time you throw away an empty aluminum can you could be helping save an animal's life. Cans for Pets, our recycling program, is an opportunity to turn trash into funds for the Humane Society.
Cans for Pets allows the community to drop off their empty aluminum cans into the big red bin located in the parking lot of the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County. Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corp supplied the recycling bins, bags, signs and cage trailer for the Cans for Pets program. The funds raised from the recycling program will aid in housing and feeding the 350 cats and dogs at the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.
Iskiwitz Metals, a used beverage can supplier to Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corp, is supporting the Cans for Pets project by buying the aluminum cans and donating a portion of the proceeds. Allen Iskiwitz, owner of Iskiwitz Metals, is a long time donor to the Humane Society of Shelby County.
The organization has collected a total of 10,000 pounds of cans from January 2007 to November 2007. As one pound of cans will purchase two pounds of dog food, Cans for Pets has provided animals at the Humane Society with over 20,000 pounds of food.
"The Humane Society provides unfortunate animals with a chance for life," said Morgan. "And our Cans for Pets program is an opportunity for the community to help give these animals that chance."
You can also help by collecting aluminum cans from your where you work, play, etc. Contact the Humane Society at 937-3900 if you would like a recycle bin to help jump start your program.
